Dr. A. asks:
I customarily prescribe alpha-chymotrypsin to my patients postoperatively to avoid edema. This is in accordance with mainstream treatment of post-operative edema and inflammation. Recently I heard a colleague talking about the effects of alpha-chymotrypsin on the bone graft material and the membrane used to cover the graft. I cannot find any references to this in the literature. Does anybody know something about this potential adverse interaction? What do you recommend?

Even I do use post implant and post grafting and I am too eager to hear from colleagues here.
normally i use intraoperative cristalline idrocortisone or bethametasone and crist. cephalosporine too, to avoid edema and any other adverse reaction and i obtain fantastic results. so i used proteolitic enzimes but not with the same response and anyway not with any membrane.
i hope it will be all this, for some utility.
