Course Objectives and Details
- Learn minimally invasive placement protocols and simple restorative techniques to stabilize lower dentures with 3M ESPE MDI system
- Practice the MDI placement and prosthetic protocols on anatomical models
- Learn successful case selection and case planning strategies
- Take home valuable tools and guidance to market the MDI system in your community and create new profitable revenue for your practice
- Understand what is unique and different about MDI placement/restoration in the maxilla
- Recognize the indications and contraindications for the use of 3M ESPE MDI implants
- Understand maxillofacial anatomy as it pertains to minimally invasive implantology
- Learn proper approaches to post-operative care


MDI Certification Seminars by 3M ESPE are held in a classroom-style setting with limited attendance to enable one-on-one time with the course instructor. MDI surgical and prosthetic protocols are demonstrated through case slide presentations and hands-on practice.
Instructors
Benjamin D. Oppenheimer, DDS

Dr. Benjamin D. Oppenheimer is a lecturer and Case Consultant for IMTEC, a 3M Company. He is the President of Foundation Milling Centre for high tech dental ceramic manufacturing. Dr. Oppenheimer received his DDS from SUNY Buffalo School of Dental Medicine after completing undergraduate studies at the University of the Pacific. He is very knowledgeable on the MDI system, training hundreds of dentists to place MDI implants and authoring a number of scientific journal articles on the subject as well.
Mark Malterud, DDS

Dr. Mark Malterud is a 1983 graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and practices General and Family dentistry in St. Paul, along with being an Adjunct Faculty member of the University of Minnesota Continuing Dental Education Department. His commitment to dental education not only as a student but also as a teacher has him personally attending well over 150 hours of dental continuing education each year.
Dr. Malterud’s practice focuses on comprehensive cosmetic general dentistry incorporating Minimally Invasive Biomimetic Dental Procedures. His passions in these areas have allowed him to lecture locally, nationally and internationally. Some of his 2011 lectures include the Yankee Dental Congress, AGD’s annual meeting in San Diego, WCMID, Biomimetics Course in Santa Monica, Greater New York Dental Meeting and local study clubs . He has trained at the L.D. Pankey Institute and completed the entire curriculum of their original educational continuums on comprehensive dentistry and has received his Mastership and Life Long Learning and Service Recognition award in the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Malterud is an active member of the American Dental Association, and it’s state and local components, the Academy of General Dentistry (where he is currently the Minnesota Immediate Past President and Chairs The AGD’s Dental Education Council) Is a Fellow in the American College of Dentists, and is involved in various local and national dental societies and study club groups. As an early user of the NTI splint he has had an opportunity to help with feedback and refinements of the uses of the splint. Dr. Malterud also consults with various other dental manufacturers on product development and testing.
Ronald Perry, DMD

Dr. Ronald Perry received his D.M.D. from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 1988 and graduated with his M.S. in Dental Research from Tufts University in 1999. He has authored over 25 articles and 60 abstracts dealing with a variety of dental topics such as bonding, composite wear, prosthodontic materials and technology, whitening, and dental laboratory communication; he lectures internationally. Dr. Perry is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International. He is the Director of the Gavel Center for Restorative Dental Research and Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Perry is a Product Evaluator for REALITY, sits on the Editorial Advisory Board for Inside Dentistry and publishes regularly in various trade journals. Dr. Perry owns a private practice, Meridian Dental Associates, in South Weymouth, Massachusetts.
