Course Objectives and Details

The course is a two-year modular part-time, graduate course of study at the J.W. Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, which is structured and taught completely independently of extra-University institutions and companies with regard to both content and finance. The accreditation of the course was granted on August, 31st 2009.

The field of oral implantology is based in part on extremely complex interdisciplinary treatment methodologies, which require a strong correlation and coordination of various areas of specialisation. For this reason the course aims to prioritise a highly rational and analytical method of thinking that will enable the optimal examination and harmonisation of the individual patient diagnosis, the selected treatment method and its results.

After the successful completion of the Master’s course, graduates will be capable of independently planning and implementing concepts for the treatment of patients requiring dental implant prosthetics. Graduates will also have the skills required to select, analyse and fully integrate into their own course of treatment the rapidly growing, however exclusively science-based, range of treatments and knowledge in this field.

The course is divided into seven obligatory modules:

  • Basic theory I

Independent planning of simple prosthetic implant therapies on host bone.

  • Basic theory II
Independent planning of simple prosthetic implant therapies on host bone and independent surgical and prosthetic work on the patient simulator.
  • Placement
The clinical competence of the student is improved through experience of live patient treatments. The aim is the independent written and literature-based analysis of planned therapies and the demonstrated treatment stages.
  • Supervision
The clinical competence and manual skills of the student will be improved through active supervised patient treatment. The aim is the independent performance of surgical procedures and prosthetic treatments on patients and the development of critical, reflective, professional competence.

I have done a master’s program from Muenster. Just completed in Oct 2011. Would like to know if you offer a master’s program in any other field of Dentistry and/or Ph D program in either implantology or biomaterials, biotechnology, tissue engineering in Dentistry. The most important thing is it must be modular program like master’s program in Implantology.

    I´m on the third module of the master of oral implantology (MOI) program and will try to answere Your questions;
    1) The MOI consists of 4 modules. 1 / semester and they last 7 days each.
Therefore You don´t have to stay in Germany more than a week / module.
    2) Additional obligatory visits to Frankfurt include: 3 days of “over the sholder” and might also include planning of the masterthesis and the final presentation of the masterthesis.
    2) The 20 clinical cases are done in Your home country.

I can really recommend MOI for everyone placing implants.

    All the best // Erik
