Clinical Expert: Richard Mecall, DDS Richard Mecall, DDS received his doctor of dental surgery degree from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1974. He subsequently received a Master of Science degree from the University of Iowa, where he studied bone physiology. Following his general dental training, Dr. Mecall completed his residency in Periodontology and one year fellowship in orthodontics at The University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1976. In 1983, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Mecall is a contributing author to three textbooks, Dental Applications of Computed Tomography, Computer Guided Implantology and Implant Therapy. Most recently, he has developed a universal implant treatment algorithm which simplifies treatment planning. This algorithm allows dentists with varying amounts of experience achieve comparable results. He has utilized computed tomography since 1987 currently practices Periodontics in Las Vegas, Nevada.
