Restoring the edentulous patient with an esthetic reconstruction may present numerous challenges to the clinician. The patient's occlusal vertical dimension, centric relation, esthetics and phonetics need to be determined and maintained throughout the restorative process. With the advent of dental implants, there are various treatment options available today to address the patient’s esthetic and functional needs. One of the most demanding treatment modalities is the fixed metal-ceramic reconstruction. It is a high end and most rewarding for the patient as well as the surgical and restorative team.

This course will discuss the diagnosis and treatment planning for fixed implant supported reconstruction. A variety of treatment options and prosthesis designs will be introduced and the treatment sequence will be reviewed in a step-by-step simplified approach to provide predictable outcome with esthetic implant reconstruction. The use of gingiva-colored ceramics will also be introduced and discussed

TOPICS TO BE COVERED:

*
Diagnosis, treatment planning and prosthetic and surgical considerations for the edentulous patient
*
Diagnostic tools such as flangeless record base, wax-up, set-up, intraoral mock-up, radiographic template
*
Treatment options for the edentulous maxilla and mandible from overdentures to fixed reconstruction
*
Prosthesis design for custom abutments, telescopic copings, infrastructure and superstructure frameworks
*
Esthetic pontic design for the horizontally submerged ovate pontic and the fused pontic
*
Applications, design considerations and technique of gingiva-colored ceramics
*
Treatment sequencing from the time of extraction to delivery of the reconstruction: a step-by-step approach
*
Provisionalization of the edentulous patient: fixed or removable?
*
Transitional implants to support provisional restorations
*
The conversion prosthesis as a simplified approach to implant reconstruction
*
Communication with the surgeon, laboratory and patient to obtain predictable results
*
Surgical reconstruction to recreate lip support
*
Fixed implant reconstruction of patients with severely resorbed ridges and lack of lip support
*
Laboratory techniques and procedures
*
Complications

UPON COMPLETION YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:

MODULE I - March 14, 2009: Esthetic implant reconstruction: from overdentures to full-mouth fixed

* Fundamental treatment options for the edentulous patient
* Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning
* Individual attachments vs. bar overdentures
* Implant supported vs. implant-tissue supported overdentures
* Esthetic metal-resin and metal-ceramic fixed implant reconstruction
* Practical and time saving tips for full-mouth reconstruction

MODULE II - March 20, 2009: Advanced designs and treatment planning for esthetic full-mouth fixed metal ceramic reconstruction

* Advanced prosthesis designs from screw retained to custom abutments and telescopic copings
* Simplicity in design: from one-piece complete arch to the segmented design
* Esthetic full-mouth implant reconstruction in one visit?
* Fixed implant reconstruction of patients with severely resorbed ridges and lack of lip support
* Surgical reconstruction to recreate lip support
* Management of complications

MODULE III - March 21, 2009: Conversion of complete dentures to fixed implant restorations in one clinical visit - HANDS-ON WORKSHOP (Limited attendance)

* Completion of either Module I or Module II is required. In this unique and exclusive course, participants will receive models of edentulous complete arches with implants and corresponding complete dentures. Each participant will convert a complete denture to a fixed implant supported provisional restoration.

This technique is the core philosophy for a simplified approach for implant reconstruction. Mastering this technique simplifies the restorative sequence significantly
and enhances the predictability of the treatment from an esthetic and functional point of view. Upon completion, participants will receive these models for patient education and demonstration of full-mouth implant reconstruction.
