Dr. Walter Chitwood, Jr., DDS

"CBCT - Creating Better Communications with Technology"

Dr. Walter Chitwood was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University in 1978 and of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1982. His post graduate training includes implant externships at the Center for Oral and Maxillofacial Rehabilitation in Clearwater, FL and the Misch Implant Institute in Dearborn MI.

Dr. Chitwood is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/ Implant Dentistry, Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, Honored Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and is a Fellow of several organizations including the American Society of Osseointegration, the Academy of Implants & Transplants and the Academy of Dentistry International. In addition to his private dental practice, he holds Board of Director positions for several dental organizations including the American Board of Implantology/Implant Dentistry and the Tennessee Academy of General Dentistry.

He is also an educator. Dr. Chitwood's office is an off-campus site of dental education for the Tennessee Technology Centers, the source of education for certified dental assistants in his state. Over the years he has held several teaching positions including Assistant Clinical Professor at the Vanderbilt School of Medicine, Department of Hospital Medicine, Adjunct Professor at Tennessee State University and serves as the Director for the Professional Resource Education Center also located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.



Arthur W. Curley, Esq.

"Comparative liability issues, misreading a scan vs. not taking one at all
- the $1,000,000 exposure?

Mr. Curley is a senior trial attorney in the San Francisco based health care defense firm of Bradley, Curley, Asiano, Barrabee & Gale, P.C.. After graduating from UC Berkeley with honors in 1970, he obtained his JD in 1974 from the University of California, Hastings School of Law in San Francisco and is currently an Assistant Professor of Dental Jurisprudence at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. As a trial attorney he has been defending doctors for over 30 years and has given risk management courses throughout the United States. He is an associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Mr. Curley has published several articles on risk management and authored chapters in text books: Babbush (Implants), Peterson (Oral Surgery), Cohen (Endodontics) and Block (Implants).



John Flucke, DDS

“A Teamwork Approach: General Dentistry’s Uses for Cone Beam”

Dr. John Flucke was born and raised in Kansas City. He received his DDS degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1987. He has practiced in Lee's Summit since 1989 and was pleased to open his new state of the art facility in 2007. Dr. Flucke's passion is technology and he is always looking for the latest development to benefit his patients. Shortly after graduating from dental school, Dr. Flucke became fascinated with the emerging field of technology in health care. He began incorporating digital technologies and saw the benefits in treatment and education his patients received. Energized by his experiences, Dr. Flucke began writing articles on all aspects of technology for a dental newsletter. This, in turn, evolved into clinical testing for dental manufacturers and lecturing at major dental meetings. Now, several years later, he is well respected for his knowledge and achievements in the industry. Dr. Flucke is the Technology Editor of Dental Products Report magazine. He is the Peer Review Chairman for the State of Missouri and past president of the Greater Kansas City DentalSociety.



Scott D. Ganz, DMD

Event Moderator “Lessons Learned: Incorporating Cone Beam CT and 3D Implant Planning” AKA “ The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”

Dr. Scott D. Ganz graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry – New Jersey Dental School. He completed a three-year specialty program in Maxillofacial Prosthetics at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Ganz is well- published in various scientific and professional journals (over 50 articles). He has delivered presentations both nationally and internationally on the Prosthetic and Surgical phases of Implant Dentistry and is considered a leader in the field of Computer Utilization for Diagnostic, Graphical, and Treatment Planning Applications in Dentistry. Dr. Ganz has been a featured speaker worldwide for numerous organizations including the Academy of Osseointegration, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, The American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics, The International Congress of Oral Implantologists, The American College of Prosthodontists, The American Academy of Implant Dentistry, The European Academy of Osseointegration, and The American Society of Osseointegration. He currently serves as Assistant Editor for the peer-reviewed journal, Implant Dentistry,and the editorial staff of Practical Procedures and Aesthetic Dentistry.


Dr. Ganz has served as a consultant for numerous companies involved with dental implants, imaging, and the high technology arena for the past thirteen years. Dr. Ganz is a Past President of the N.J. Section of the American College of Prosthodontists, and has been very involved with the National Organization. He also developed and maintains an internet Forum on interactive CT scanning technology, and is a founding member of the SIMPlant Academy, and co-founder of Kinetic Guidance (www.kineticguidence.com).



Steve Guttenberg, DMD, MD

Cone Beam CT: Can you afford to not have one in your office?"

Steven A. Guttenberg, DDS, MD is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, practicing the full scope of his specialty in Washington, DC where he is Director of the Washington Institute for Mouth, Face and Jaw Surgery. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of theAmerican College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, of which he is currently the President, and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

He is a member of the teaching staff at the Washington Center and is the chairman of its Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training and Education Committee. He is a frequent lecturer throughout the United States and abroad as well. Doctor Guttenberg has written numerous scientific articles and book chapters which have been published in the dental and medical literature.



W. Bruce Howerton, Jr., DDS

"A Systematic Approach to Interpreting DICOM Data Within the Field of View"

Dr. Howerton received a DDS degree from West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 1985. He completed a Certificate in Endodontics from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1987 and practiced surgical and nonsurgical endodontics in Asheville, North Carolina. In 1999, he entered the UNC Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology graduate program and completed a Master of Science in 2001. In addition to becoming an Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist, he became proficient in Web development and discovered novel forms of content delivery using authoring software. While serving on the faculty at The UNC School of Dentistry, he presented novel forms of content delivery to faculty, staff, and students, and aided in Web Development. As of December, 2003 Dr. Howerton became a diplomate of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.



From his years of surgical and nonsurgical endodontic experience, Dr. Howerton is intimately familiar with the maxillo-mandibular complex. Together with the knowledge gained during his education at the UNC Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and experience with content delivery authoring software, Dr. Howerton excels at creating images using computer software and cone beam technology.



Jack Krauser, DMD
“Lessons Learned: Incorporating Cone Beam CT and 3D Implant Planning”

AKA “ The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”

Jack T, Krauser, DMD started his dental career at the University of Pennsylvania, Dental school. He then went on to become a practitioner in the Periodontics department at Boston University. After a short stay in private practice in NY, he started his own practice in Boca Raton, Florida, where he practices today. He has lectured nationally and internationally on subjects including implant design and surfaces, extraction socket therapy, ridge augmentation and regeneration as well as guided implant surgery.He is involved as an editor of several implant related journals, he has published over 20 journal articles and three text chapters. He will also be a co-author of a new implant text scheduled for release in 2009. He belongs to many dental and implant organizations and is presently the Secretary of the ICOI, the worlds largest implant organization.


Ed Lin, DDS

"Taking the 21st Century Orthodontics Into the 3D World!!!

Dr. Lin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Chicago. He continued his dental education and orthodontic residency at Northwestern University Dental School. Dr. Lin maintains a full-time private group practice in Green Bay, WI. Their practice is an all-digital practice utilizing all state-of-the-art technologies such as: ICAT, SureSmile, Dolphin Management and Imaging, Innovation self-ligation, temporary anchorage devices, and lasers. He has lectured extensively nationally and has also taught at both Marquette University and the University of Minnesota Orthodontic Residency Programs. He was also a speaker at the International Congress on 3-D Dental Imaging in 2008. Dr. Lin involves himself in the American and Wisconsin Dental Associations, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Midwestern and Wisconsin Society of Orthodontics, and the World Federation of Orthodontists, as well as local and national study clubs. Dr. Lin also volunteers at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College at the Community Dental Clinic.



James Mah, DDS

“Lies, Damned Lies and Cone-Beam”

Dr. James Mah is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Southern California and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. At USC he is the Director of Redmond Imaging Center and the Director of the Craniofacial Virtual Reality Laboratory. The Redmond Imaging Center operates a cone-beam CT (CBCT) and provides services to dentists within USC and outside as well. His research has been focused on creating virtual 3-dimensional craniofacial patients upon which diagnosis, treatment planning and simulations can be performed. Dr. Mah obtained his Bachelor of Science, Doctorate of Dental Surgery, Master of Science degrees and his Certificate of Specialization in Orthodontics from the University of Alberta, Canada. Following he graduated from Harvard Medical School with a Doctorate of Medical Science degree and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedics at Children’s Hospital, Boston. He was a full-time faculty member in the Department of Orthodontics at Harvard School of Dental Medicine prior to his current positions. Dr. Mah has authored over 80 publications, 4 textbooks, several book chapters and has made over 100 presentations nationally and internationally.

Dr. Mah is a recognized expert in 3-Dimensional imaging, visualization and modeling. His work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, The National Post, Tech TV, and other magazines and journals. His research laboratory is funded by grants from the National Institutes of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Science Foundation, McAlister Foundation, California Wellness Foundation, the American Association of Orthodontists Foundation, Sun Microsystems, and a number of industry partners. He is also a founder of the Conferences on Orthodontic Advances in Science and Technology and an organizer of the Biological Mechanisms of Tooth Movement conference series. He serves as an editor for the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics and is a reviewer for the American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics, Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, Korean Orthodontic Journal, the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, & Endodontics and Dentomaxillofacial Radiology.



Michael A. Pikos, DDS

"Interdisciplinary Esthetic Zone Reconstruction: Synergy of Interactive CT / Hard and Soft Tissue Grafting".

Dr. Michael A. Pikos is originally from Campbell, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He also graduated with honors from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Dr. Pikos completed residency training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Montefiore Hospital.
He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology/Implant Dentistry, and Diplomate of The International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Pikos is the recipient of the 2006 Aaron Gershkoff Memorial Award from the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.

He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the following institutions: The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry, the University of Miami, School of Medicine, and Nova Southeastern University, College of Dental Medicine. He is also a Courtesy Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Periodontology, at the University of Florida, College of Dentistry.
Dr. Pikos has extensive experience in implant surgery and hard and soft tissue grafting procedures. He emphasizes interactive CT technology along with foundational principles of prosthetics and biomechanics that dictate the ultimate success of comprehensive implant rehabilitation.

He is a well published author who has lectured extensively on dental implants in North and South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Dr. Pikos is an active member and frequent lecturer for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Academy of Periodontics, the Academy of Oseointegration, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the International Congress of Implantology.
Dr. Pikos is founder and CEO of the Pikos Implant Institute. Since 1990, he has been teaching advanced bone and soft tissue grafting courses with alumni that now number more than 2200 from all 50 states and 32 countries. Dr. Pikos maintains a private practice which is limited exclusively to implant surgery in Palm Harbor, Florida.



Ralan Wong,DDS

"3-D Endodontics: The Final Frontier?

Dr. Wong is a native San Franciscan whose family reaches back five generations. He graduated with honors from the University of the Pacific College in 1989 and the School of Dentistry in 1992 where he was awarded Dean's List and inducted into Tao Kappa Omega Honor Society. He subsequently received a certificate in Advanced Education in General Dentistry in 1993 also from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry

He completed his graduate training in endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1997. While at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Wong received his certificate in endodontics, his masters degree in oral biology and the Louis I. Grossman award for outstanding clinical and academic performance.
Recently inducted as a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy for excellence in dentistry, Dr. Wong is presently associate clinical professor in endodontics at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry and has become, early in his career, respected worldwide as a lecturer, practitioner, and teacher.
