CONTENT:
It has been said, "success comes from good judgement. Good judgement comes from experience. And experience comes from bad judgement." Usually not the first choice of treatment, cantilevers frequently represent seemingly the best alternative to many prosthetic dilemmas. Employed universally by practitioners at various times, are cantilevers a clever solution or an accident waiting to happen? Long term documentation of cases treated with cantilevers of various designs, has forced this practitioner to rethink the entire cantilever issue and propose new indication criteria.

Learning Objectives
1). To understand which are the best and which are the worst abutment choices for cantilevers.
2). To gain an appreciation for the benefits of documentation of our cases over time.
3). To gain an appreciation for how much the use of cantilevers are a compromise.
