Abutments are Loose: Will My Implants Fail?

The abutments on my two implants became loose and are falling off, and I am due to get the crowns placed on these posts now. Are my dental implants now ruined??? Will I have to start the procedure all over again? Please tell me that this is fixable.

Loose abutments in itself does not mean the implants are damaged. They usually just require to be tightened. Your dentist can verify this very easily.Dr. Kazemi

From your description of the problem, I surmise that you are still in treatment. It sounds as though you either have a healing abutment or a temporary abutment that can and has become loose or a final abutment that hasn't been completely tightened. None of the above should compromise the final case; however, you need to call your dentist so that the loose abutment can be retightened. It might be necessary to remove some additional gum if gum has grown over the implant, but the implant should be fine. Contact your dentist ASAP. Good luck. Dr. Brook
