Placing a V-Ring Against the Implant Crown: Pose Any Danger?

Print Print

Dr. F. asks:
I have to place a Class II direct resin-composite DO in tooth #29 [mandibular right second premolar] which is adjacent to a single free-standing implant and PFM in #30 site [mandibular right first molar site]. The implant is a wide platform Nobel Biocare Replace Select tapered that was placed 3 years ago. I use a V-ring [Triodent] to separate the teeth with the spring action of the ring and create a tight proximal contact. I am just wondering if placing a V-ring against the implant crown will pose any danger to the implant because of the pressure the springing action will exert on the implant. Has anybody tried this?

No problema mi amigo. That implant is integrated (or should be after 3 years)…a little v-ring pressure won’t affect it in the least.

why are you worried for the small amount of pressure which this ring is going to subject for a very minimal amount of time…. whereas your integrated implant is subjected to lot of pressures from occlusion day in and day out……

The force exterted by the V ring is insufficient to cause any issues with the implants integration at this stage. If this was an immediate loaded implant temp and you were with in the 8 weeks post surgery then it could but the fixture is fully integrated now. it also comes down to the weaker element moves, meaning since the tooth has a PDL and the implant is anylosed the tooth will displace more then if it were two adjacent natural teeth. pt after the restoration is done may sense slight pressure on he natural tooth but after a day or two that will disappear.

Just think, why do we use implants as anchorage in ortho.

I do not think this is any big deal. A good implant (well integtated) is hard to budge.
