Shouldn’t I use the hex impression copings for open tray impression for a bridge?

If I use them, shouldn’t I splint them together with GC resin pattern?

I did it once recently (as the supplier does not have non-hex impression copings), it was VERY hard to take the PVS impression out of the mouth. I also heard a cracking sound of the pattern resin inside the impression.

Dr Matthew Hyde comments:

Unless implants completely parallel, hex transfer if splinted could lock in position or crack transfer upon removal as noted. If you want to splint transfers you must use non engaging transfers.

Dr Pravin patel Mumbai in comments:

Avoid hex when multiple un parallel implants and splinted with pattern resin..but still u can with hex if using mono phase poly ether pentamix impression materials. which allows limited flexibility when required without distrotion..no rigid splinting required.

you can make hexed impression copings into non hexed copings by cutting off the hex or rounding off the edges. I rarely splint pick up copings together. I use a stiff impression material (impregum) for the impressions. If you are making a three unit bridge I would recommend cementing the bridge over custom abutments to allow for a passive fit of bridge to implants.
