Basal Osseointegrated Implant: What Are the Advantages?

Dr. S. asks:

The BOI [Basal Osseointegrated Implant] system has been used in Europe for quite some time and relies more on transmitting occlusal forces to the basal bone than endosseous screw form implant fixtures. There are a number of organizations in Europe of dentists who use this system. I have not been able to find much information in the peer reviewed published dental literature on their advantages, use and longevity. Could some of the users advise on the advantages of this system over endosseous screw form implant fixtures and their experiences?
