Apicoectomy Tooth with root supported overdenture?

Last Updated November 25, 2015

I have worn a partial bottom denture for over 30yrs, which is supported by “only” two of my own teeth. {#27 and #22} Tooth #22 had an apicoectomy treated about 20 yrs. ago.
My dentist is encouraging me to have a root canal on tooth #27 so that he can use it as well as tooth #22 for a Root supported overdenture. (Locator root Attachment). I unfortunately have severe bone loss and, have been told that wearing a full bottom denture is impossible. My concern is that the apicoectomy treated tooth will not be able to hold the Locator post which would be cemented inside it. Any thoughts?
