Implant Placement in Extraction Site with Failed Endodontic Treatment

Last Updated August 23, 2018

In this case, a patient presented to the office with a chief complaint of a draining fistula above tooth #10. Clinically, the maxillary lateral incisor had failed endodontic treatment, a large post, and an ill-fitting PFM restoration. When the tooth was palpated, it displayed +1 mobility. Radiographs confirmed the failed endodontic treatment and with the large post present, the possibility of a root fracture could not be ruled out. Treatment options were discussed with patient and the decision was made to do an extraction and implant placement.
