« Chances of Injuring the Nasopalatine Foramen During Implant Placement? | Packed in More Graft than Needed: What Should I Do? »
Print This PostDr. S. asks:
I have a patient with an HA MicroVent 10 X 3.7 implant in the #4 region [maxillary right second premolar] which was placed in 1989. The abutment and crown are absent. What would be the appropriate impression coping and lab analog and/or abutment for the implant? My objective is to insert either a custom abutment or stock abutment which I can prepare and then insert a PFM. Because the implant fixture is older, I am not sure where I go to get the components. Any ideas?

The original internal hex-bevel connection of Gerald Niznick, and he still produces abutments for that implant as I know. Call ImplantDirect.
Implant Direct has it for sure, I had a similar problem.
You can use the Legacy 3.7 dia prosthetic components from Implant Direct LLC it is exactly the same plateform and connection
I had something similar and Zimmer Dental Provided me the components…
Does the implant have threads? Some microvents in 1989 were hex hole meaning that the abutment was cemented and not screwed in. If that is the case you are looking at a different senerio when you go to place the abutment. You can order the cementable abutments from Cal Ceram Dental Lab in Van Nuys, Cal. 800-547-2542. Speak to Greg Sederlin he can fill you in on the details. If the implant has threads he can also provide you with the stock abutment. I have used this company to get all my old core-vent parts.
PS. The shaft on the stock cementable abutment has to be modified to fit certain implants lengths. If you do need a cementable abutment make sure you size it and take a radiograph to verify its seating. If it does not seat the shaft is notched and it will need to be cut at that point to get the abutment to seat properly. Don’t do what one of my referral did. That is fill the hole with cement and put the abutment only to realize that it was 3mm off the implant. This will ruin you whole day.

If you cannot find what you are looking for there two sources that may be able to help you-
Attachments International
Zirconia Abutment.com
The first has titanium aftermarket parts- talk to Darwin.
The second, if you so desire and this an abutment that is screwed into the implant (according to the preivous post that thes were maybe cemented in abutments)can be made as an all zirconia abutment or anatomical abutment (full contoured with porcelain - one piece).
You can obtain these abutments from MIS, AB Dental, Implant Direct and Zimmer etc. They are much the same.
