Clip for Bar in the Anterior Mandible?

Print Print

A dentist from Alabama asks:

I have a patient that has had two dental implants with a bar in the anterior mandible which has retained her overdenture since 1987. The Bar that she has is a little larger than a Hader clip can handle. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what type of clip would work? I would rather find a larger clip that will fit the bar rather than replace the bar. Thanks for any suggestions.

Lifecore Biomedical mackes plastic clips, if the bar is a little to big, you can trim them down so they may fit.

You can measure the bar with a caliper, take a quick I/O picture and forward same to Attachments International at 650-340-1426. This is a great company with a tremendous amount of resources. Another option that I have found to work very well is change the bar to “Locator” attachments by Zest. These are very highly recommended and require minimal maintenance and much better retention then the clips. Best of luck to you.

Please give me your expert opinion. I have upper dentures and about 8 years ago had 3 metal implants on lower jaw. Recently, the bar seems slightly unstable. on the ends. Can be ever so slightly moved and I can feel it when I take out my overdenture if I slightly touch on each end of the bar. I have had them cleaned 1-2 times a year and have had the clips repaced(there are 2)whenever needed. Do I need a new bar or have I lost a screw. What is your expertise answer to put my mind at ease. I cannot get into the dentist for at least 2 weeks and I’m SO Desparate for peace of mind until then. P;ease respond and I thank you so much.
    Sincerely, Nancy
P.S. can you reply to me. I will hope this is on your website tomorrow. I’m so scared that all at once I’d have to have them redone but they have been secure for 8 years and cared for
