Composite Stain at Access Holes?

Last Updated: Feb 22, 2017

I have had some complaints from my patients concerning the staining around the margins of the composite filling the screw access holes. Even though I finished and polished them to a glazed surface, they stain quite fast(after 1-2 months ). Does anyone have any recommendations for a remedy for this problem?

What type of material are the crowns? Zirconia, Emax...?

Your polishing has nothing to do with the staining. You will get micro-leakage between the composite and the ceramic material unless you go through all of the usual steps to bond to ceramic i.e. sand blast, acid etch, silane, etc. I have never had a patient complain of this. In the future just explain to them that this is likely and expected.
