Pain after implant placement 10 weeks ago: What should I do?
Last Updated: Jan 17, 2014
I had 3 implants put in (#8, 9, 10) 10 weeks ago. 9 months earlier I had substantial bone grafting to ensure enough bone. When placing implant #10, the surgeon had to give me additional Novocain as I experienced pain as he screwed in the implant. Immediately after the surgery, the area around #10 felt like it was under a lot of pressure. The first 7 weeks after surgery I needed to take 6-8 Advil per day. Starting in week 8, I no longer needed the Advil but now in week 10 I am still experiencing what I would call a dull ache or pressure in the bone around #10. I have a “consciousness” sensation around #10 that doesn’t seem to go away – not bad pain, just constant feeling of dull ache or pressure in the area. I can sleep fine with no pain. I have spoken to my dentist and Periodontist who placed the implant and they say give it more time. Is that your opinion as well? Will this sensation go away eventually? Should I consider removing the implant in question? It is disruptive to my life as it is something I am constantly aware of and thinking about. Thanks for your input.
