Anon. asks:
After we finish an implant case rehabilitation, do I just place the patient in my usual recall with the hygienists in my practice? Is there a special schedule for recalling implant patients? My periodontist has told me that a recall every 3 months is the best schedule. My hygienists use plastic tipped scalers to clean the implant abutments and components. Is there ever any need for the hygienist to plane the subgingival extension of the implant fixture or abutment? Does subgingival calculus ever build up on the implant fixtures or abutments? Are there any ultrasonic tips that we can use?

the best schedule is 3 months interval for the first and second time with Xray to see if there is any major and unusual bone loss…then switch to your regular appointments schedule e.g. each 6 months…
you scale as far as you can go without pressure…don’t destroy the attachements around the implant. for ultrasonic some may use titanium insert but the best is using any ultrasonic insert covered by a silicone protection…

excuse me but i never have seen calculus araund my implants but only some plaque debreeds . so i think that the question is: prevention and there the use of ultrasonic scaleres withouht thintking of it’s better using with silicon protection or not; it’s the same.

in mine studio i personally practice prevention and scailing therapy and my assistant assist me.

titanium or not titanium in the question is not prominent how to use silicon covered instrument, and it is my only opinion based on forty years of my professional way. thank you

i must say that i recall my patients , the first time after surgical intervention after two or three days, than after five days ,and after it depends what you have decided to do for the the prosecution of rehability of the patient.

it is so because i follow the patient from the prime step to the left step. so is in my practice.
