Dr. B., from New York, asks:
I am thinking of using SimPlant Version 11. This upgraded version of their software is supposed to have more opportunities for interaction and is also supposed to have a very user-friendly protocol that involves a step-by-step task panel. Is this upgraded package worth buying at this time? For those of you using this already, what are your thoughts? Should I wait until it goes through another upgrade?

It is awesome software. There isn’t really an upgrade. You pay a yearly license fee and all upgrades come with the fee (providing you’ve bought the software). Of one note, I see Nobel lost their case to Materialise in Germany and it appears they did “copy” Simplant (very obvious). Suit was filed this week in California and I don’t think the outcome will be much better.

Simplant is the leader and the service and product is great. Version 11 is by far their best effort and the learning curve isn’t too steep. The “wizard” is pretty good although not perfect and the bone graft module is good but hard to draw 3D grafts, but it just takes time getting used to.
