Dr. A. asks:
My sales rep told me that I should not use a dual cure resin cement to cement veneers because over time, they will stain. Something in the dual cure cement is supposed to degrade and that is what causes the staining. I have been cementing my veneers with Rely X-Unicem (3M) which is a dual cure resin cement. I know 3M has resin cements specific for veneers but I like the RelyX-Unicem and use it for everything. Is this true about the cement staining over time? Should I use a different cement for the veneers?

No you shouldn’t dual cure veneers. I don’t know about staining but they will grey/lower value out over time. Unicem was designed for restorations like crowns, onlays and inlays only. Veneers should only be lightcured which rely X has a system for this.
If you use Unicem for zirconia restorations make sure you use metal primer silane on the internal surface for a better bond.

I don’t think that dual cure resin cement is appropriate for cementing your veneers. I know such cases that after a very short period veneers were colored because of dual cure resin cement. In any case follow your dentist’s advice.
