Can Reuteri Tablets Cause Implant Failure?

Marlene, a dental implant patient, asks:
I am a 55 year old female. In August 2008 I had 6 dental implants placed in my upper jaw of which 3 failed to integrate with the existing bone and had to be replaced. This is apparently the first time the oral surgeon has had such a high failure rate with regard to osseointegration and he is of the opinion that it was caused by my use of Reuteri, a “good oral bacteria” product.

I would like to know if there is any research or information with regard to the use of L. reuteri lozenges during the first three months after implantation? I took between 2 and 3 lozenges a day. Could this have caused the failure of my 3 implants?

Eventhough I believe that there is no direct research on this subject,is my opinion that there is no real relation between this two. This implants were submerged? did you use a removable prosthesis during the osseointegration period?, inmediate or delayed load?, inmediate implants or delayed post extraction?,were there extractions?previous infection?, any systhemic compromises like diabetes or high blood pressure?do you smoke?.... I think that this are much more likely to be the main problems than the Reuteri. If you answer the questions we could more likely give you an answer.

Thank you so much for your response. In reply to Dr Berg's questions: I did not have immediate previous extractions - I lost all my upper teeth 30 years ago. A bilateral sinus lift was done before implantation to supplement bone in my upper jaw with bone harvested from my hip. Surgeon used Nobelguide technology for the implants. Yes, I did wear a removable prosthesis during the osseointegration period (in fact, still wearing it 8 months later). I've never smoked, have normal blood pressure and sugar levels. I do have mild osteoporosis, but I'm not taking any medication for this apart from calcium supplementation. Wearing an occlusal guard at night for further protection of the implants. I'd appeciate any further comments from your esteemed panel. Thank you!

I had a Botox treatment two weeks ago and plan to have more Botox injected soon. I have a dental implant scheduled for eleven days after the Botox treatment and wondered if Botox ever caused problems with implants.

I do not see how the L. returi tablets could cause implant failure.
