CollaTape

![]Colla_tape](http://osseonews.blogs.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/colla_tape.gif)Dr. Bernstein asks us:
I use
CollaTape if I don’t get primary closure, but I find it resorbs too quickly,
and doesn’t contain the graft well.

Do others find successful grafts
with it? Does the ridge look like a saddle (sunken) after 4 months or
does the ridge look full? Any suggested reading material?

Pick up a copy of Arun Gargs book on biology of bone. It will answer all your questions on type of membranes, graft materials etc. Numerous articles can be also be found with research. Lifecore sells medical grade calcium sulfate whcich makes a great covering for grafted sockets. Alloderm dermal graft also makes a great covering. There will be some shrinkage as the graft consolidates, however overbuilding and preparing for this can help. Good reading.........:~)

I use CollaTape and similar collagen products in non critical areas to retain graft materials, control bleeding, etc. Use a collagen membrane product for better results, the membrane products are designed to resorb much more slowly and will likely give you the results you desire.

The only option to maintain your graft without primary closure would be a collagen membrane. Just because you choose a membrane over colla tape doesn't mean you won't have the same experience.
