Implant Provisional Fixed Partial Denture: Any Advice?
Last Updated: Feb 21, 2010
Dr. AJK, a general dentist, asks:
I have treatment planned my patient for an implant supported fixed partial denture from #7-10 [maxillary right lateral incisor to maxillary left lateral incisor; 12-22] with pontics #8 and 9 maxillary right central incisor and maxillary left central incisor; 11-21]. The patient is currently wearing a maxillary flipper [maxillary resin base interim removable partial denture] replacing the maxillary anterior teeth. I would like to torque down provisional abutments and insert a provisional resin fixed partial denture. I am concerned about damaging the implant threads of I torque down the provisional abutments using too much force. The manufacturer recommends 15 Ncm. Would it be possible to just use manual finger pressure to hand tighten the provisional abutments? Will this be enough to keep them in place?
