Bridge to bond 4 teeth vs Single Implants?

Last Updated: Nov 25, 2014

well, thanks to old medical practices, mom took meds when she was pregnant. As a result, my secondary teeth had no enamel. I had crowns on the upper front teeth and bonding on lowers. Anyway, #8 front tooth failed and was replaced with a screw and crown in 1990. This broke, and I had it removed. Since the other crowns are so old and I have had receding gums, I’m going replace all of it. Choices are to do a bridge which will bond 4 teeth, and single crowns on the other 2 or to do a dental implant and have all the teeth single and not dependent on the bridge? Would love to get an opinion of bridge vs implant for me. Thanks.

I have read your question but it is not clear to me the condition of the other three front teeth. In order to quide you properly I would need to see the most recent radiographs. It is true that a dental implant may be your best long term option however this all depends on the condition of the remaining teeth and your expectaions of longevity for a bridge should that be an option. Again it was unclear to me but I believe you are speaking about teeth #7,8,9,10. Than it is unclear why you would crown the “other two” Is that for esthetic reasons? Please send more information if we can be of service. Sincerely, David Furnari DDS

You are always better off long term to have dental implants releive the stress of a missing tooth. The literature shows that implants have longer term success than bridges. The exact clinical situation has to be determined by a CT scan and xrays though.Dr. Michael Tischler
