Cone Beam CT vs. Panoramic X-Ray?

Is the Cone Beam CT better than a Panoramic X-ray when looking at the healing of dental implants or is a Cone Beam only advantageous prior to implant placement? I had the 1st stage of implants put in July, 2010 and am worried that they aren’t healing properly. I am wondering if a Cone Beam CT would help here and how I find a dentist who can provide me with a Cone Beam CT? Thanks

Clinical evidence of integration is the best predictor of the health of the titanium to bone interface. Discuss your concerns with your implantologist.Best of Luck.Theodore Grossman DMD

The volumetric cone beam ct scan is one of the best things I can do for my patients as part of the treatment planning procedure. It allows me to plan a very accurate surgery without touching a scalpel so there is no guesswork involved as far as the amount and the quality of bone available. However, after implant placement, I don't find it that necessary unless there is an obvious problem.Talk to the surgeon that placed the implants and express your concerns, and let him or her guide you as to what is prudent in your particular case.Good luck.
