Crown Cracked: Can I Get a Dental Implant without a Bone Graft?

My crown had a crack underneath so I was referred to a oral surgeon to have the tooth pulled. The oral surgeon removed the tooth and advised in 4-6 months an implant could be done. This was done in February and no bone graft was done. Without the bone graft, how does that impact this procedure? Will the implants hold?

The first thing that needs to be assessed once a tooth is extracted is the amount of bone. If there is enough bone to support a dental implant, and there is no active infection, then an implant should be placed. If a tooth is removed and the outside wall of bone is missing, or more bone, then grafting should be done at the time of extraction or a few weeks after. Just because the surgeon did not graft at the time of extraction doesn't mean an implant can't be placed 6 months later.
