Dental Implant: Can this Cause Bad Breath?

I got my dental implant about 3 years ago back. About a year ago I noticed that it started to move. I also noticed a very unpleasant odor. I use a waterpick to get every bit of food out of my mouth after meals, but it doesn’t help, my daughter tells me, I have a bad breath. Can this bad breath be caused by the dental implant. What can I do about this? Should I get the implant removed.

Successful implants are fused to the bone in a process called osseointegration. If your implant has moved it is a sign that it has failed. A failed implant can be the cause of bad breath, but it also can come from the rest of your mouth. A visit to your dentist can provide all the information you need to take care of your problem. According to your description you will need to remove that implant. Ask your dentist if he or she can determine the reason for the failure. Good luck!Dr. Carlos Boudet

An implant or its crown should not move. If any of the components are moving, it is either failing and infected or it may be trapping plaque that can not be removed effectively. Please see an oral surgeon or your dentist to have it checked as soon as possible.
