Dental Implant delayed due to bone loss, what are my options?
Last Updated: Oct 03, 2013
When I was younger, I had an accident and knocked out my front tooth. I had to have the tooth removed, but then due to crappy dentists and stuff a follow up appointment didn’t take place and I was kind of forgotten. So years later, when I was about 13 I had braces for around 2 years, to create space for an implant. The surgery took place for me to have the implant, but due to bone loss thought to be caused by my braces moving my teeth and the bone not growing back enough for a successful implant, the surgeon didn’t want to risk inserting the implant for it then to fail. But, now I’m 18, I don’t smile, I find it very hard to talk to people even my friends and family never mind strangers, and I’m very insecure and have no self confidence My dentist has said I will need to have braces for another 18 months to two years before another attempt is made. I’m from the UK and this is through free health care, however is there anything else I can be looking in to, as another two years is just too much. Any other options?
