Is Dental implant really necessary after tooth extraction?

I am a 35 yr old female and had root canal done twice in tooth #30 in the past two years. Now the tooth is bothering me again and an Endodontist took a look at the xray last week and suggested that the tooth has to be removed since even an Apicoectomy will not help. Now the question is about the implant which my insurance is not covering. 1. Now, is an implant really necessary? 2. If it is necessary then how long can I wait to get it done, say can I wait for 1 or 2 yrs to get some savings done and then get the implant? 3. Can I get a bridge fixed till I decide whether to get a implant done.? I am planning to get the tooth extracted next week and my periodontist says if I decide to go ahead with the implant then she needs to prepare the tooth for it, the day the extraction is done. So I am confused. Please advise

I can give you my opinion, but you need to ask these questions to the periodontist that plans your implant. If the tooth is extracted and the socket grafted, you can come back a few months later and place an implant. If you do not want an implant, the teeth adjacent to the extraction can be reduced and a bridge cemented. Your last alternative is leaving the space and allowing your bite to shift and create bite problems. Good Luck! Dr. Carlos Boudet
