Dental Implant vs Moving Molars with Braces?

I am going to need braces, but will also have to get a baby tooth pulled that does not have a tooth to replace it. They can either give me a dental implant, post braces, or move my back molars forward during the whole braces process. I’m worried that moving my molars forward to fill the gap will change my bite. Which is a better option?

Any time I can correct a situation with orthodontics that is what I prefer. As Dr. Tishcler pointed out this is dependent on the overall bite situation. If your orthodontist is confident that they can close the space my moving the molars forward and the resultant bite will be satisfactory that is GENERALLY the way I would go. Keep in mind that moving molars forward can be a difficult movement, but modern orthodontics has solutions. If you use an implant to replace the “baby” tooth that will be a great alternative option. Hope this was helpful, Dr David Azar

Replacing the baby tooth with a dental implant is a great option. A baby tooth usually does a great job of maintaining the space for a dental implant. Orthodontic movement is another option and it depends on the overall bite situation that determines the best choice.Dr. Michael Tischler
