All on Four Implants: Food Getting Stuck Under the Fixed Appliance?

I have 2 sets of all on four implants, upper and lower. The problem I have is that food is getting under the fixed dentures. I must say this was never discussed prior to the surgery and so when it happened I was bummed, but I am certainly in a much better position than before the implants. Can the screw caps (term?) come off, and if so, has that perhaps loosened the implant/denture? I am very careful to gargle, swish, swish swish SWISH to get rid of any food particles, but it is somewhat annoying, after paying $50,000 and thinking dentures were a thing of the past! Any ideas on what I can do?

Sometimes there are soft tissue changes that are not anticipated during the fabrication of the prosthesis and any shrinkage may result in areas where food can accumulate. The dentist and laboratory must design the case carefully to avoid these gaps but at the same time make the underside accessible for cleaning. A Waterpik is usefull in flushing these particles from under the prosthesis. Have your dentist evaluate the prosthesis to see if it can be modified to reduce this for you. Good luck!
