Intense Exercise After Dental Implants Surgery: Can this Cause Problems?

I had an implant installed recently and since I am a competitive distance runner, was told to take two days off from running after the surgery. I took a “Z”-pack to guard against infection, and a prescription mouth rinse. Pain meds were also prescribed as needed. I rested for two days and on day three ran 10 miles, day four ran 8 miles, day five ran 8 miles, and day six ran 8 miles. I noticed pain beginning to build sporadically throughout these few days of running but was unsure if this was the normal healing process. Could my pain be caused from running those four days, even though I took two days off from training after surgery? How would/does intense exercise effect post-oral surgery recovery from dental implants? Ibuprofen seems to be helping more than pain meds, maybe because it is more effective in treating inflammation? Could I have inflammation without an infection? Thanks.

Overexertion after surgery can cause increase pain, although it should not compromise the healing process of an implant. I usually recommend my patients to avoid exercise for 3-4 days and gradually engage in light exercise up to a week before returning to normal.dr. kazemi Dr. H. Ryan Kazemi

After surgery you don't want to put stress on the surgical site. Intense running will do that through blood pressure changes in your head. Just take a few days off and allow your body to heal. As a runner I know it is difficult to stop a daily pattern. Just Do It! Dr. Michael Tischler

I had upper implants installed 7 days ago and I am still, I went to the gym and did intense cardio for the first two says following the surgery. I have been in excruciating pain since. I went back to the dentist and said it looks good, I was concerned that the implants were too close to my sinus , the doctor disagreed. What should I do?
