Number of Implants to Support Lower Denture: 4 or 2?

Had all my uppers pulled out when I was 32 and only had 1 molar on the lower right and 7 teeth in the lower front. How stable will the lower denture be if supported with 2 or 4 locator implants?

Locators are one that’s been recommended to me and the surgeon has stated maximum 4 dental implants. A dentist on the other side of the state, however, told me that with 2 implants there’s “some movement but not much” of the lower denture . May I ask you all is it possible for a person to eat a ham and cheese sub sandwich with this lower implant-supported denture and regular upper denture? I’ve been able to do that for the past 25 years or so with the few teeth and upper denture I mentioned although it had to be a tender sandwich and not compacted down. Will there be a big improvement with this new set up?

Thank you. I’ve been waiting a long time to do this.

If you have an adequate lower ridge, two implants with locators will allow you to eat that sandwich. Four implants will allow more masticatory force to be applied through a more rigidly held prosthesis.

No question, to do it right go with 4. 2 implant retention is a definent compromise but will help. Its like towing a trailer with a Volkswagon...it can be done but may have problems depending on the load. Visit SnapTiteDentures.comMichael E. Corsello DMD
