Tooth Fell Out But Still Have the Root: Options?

Last Updated: Nov 25, 2014

Hello my tooth cracked and there is 1/4 of it left which is loose. The root of the tooth is still fully intact and the only pain I’m getting is from the gum on the outside of my mouth. If/when the remaining bit of the tooth falls out does the root have to be removed? Should I then get a dental implant?

Leaving that tooth root like it is will eventually be a problem. In many instances the root can be removed and a dental implant placed depending on the residual bone levels. If there is not enough bone available for a dental implant to be placed, then bone grafting can be done before implant placement.
