Straumann implant fixture is not compatible with abutment?

Has anyone had issues with the compatibility of a Straumann implant fixture with the correct size Straumann abutment? The abutment does not fully seat on the implant fixture causing the abutment to be unstable. They do not fit together. Any recommendations?

stop using Straumann. They are overpriced and do not work any better than companies like Implant Direct who have compatibility surgically and restorative. :)

Ed, are you for real or selling implant direct? What proof do you have that implant direct is better than straumann? You don't, it's just your opinion. Knock of brands will always be around but I wouldn't put a knock off product in my mouth. Straumann is an excellent company. To answer the original question, the straumann screw is made to engage when the abutment is nearly fully seated to prevent incomplete seating. Are you by any chance hanging up on the surrounding bone? Are you sure you're using the right sized components (RC vs. NC)? Are you using a knock off like implant direct that usually has a poorer fit (they can't copy the exact connection of Straumann or they infinge on the patent) so doesn't have the precise fit? I wish you luck but keep at it with Straumann!

Straumann IS a good company, and I would echo what DrJohnson said. The company has highly trained representatives that are available to help you if you run into issues with a particular case. Reach out to the company and they should be able to walk you through any issues.

Don't skimp because of cost, charge appropriately. You are replacing a body part. I've removed many failed Implant direct implants. Consider what is best for patient. Great advice given, take it. ,

I was the patient that the straumann implant and abutment was used on for the original post. IT took 5 trips to my long time dentist to get this situation corrected. For some reason the abutment would not seat properly on the implant after 4 tries. The Straumann rep came in twice to assist my dentist. He had never seen this happen before. On the fifth try for some reason the abutment appeared to seat properly and my dentist tightened it into place. Unfortunately the abutment came loose again and the crown had to be drilled off. This time my dentist put a crown on that could be removed easily by removing a filling on the top. So far so good. The second crown has not loosened up. My suggestion to Straumann is to package the implant and the abutment together and to put in the instructions to go through a dry run before putting a patient through what I went through. I missed a lot of hours from work and did not enjoy all the effort to correct it. This would require some coordination between the oral surgeon and the dentist that finishes the implant. I am hoping the Straumann rep that my dentist worked with opened a complaint on my case.

Dear Frank; Thank you for the post. You are a patient, not a practitioner, and don't fully understand the interplay that goes on with medical devices (As I wouldn't understand your occupation) Straumann is an excellent implant system. When the dentist sends your impression to a lab there's no guarantee that the lab will use authentic parts. Many times, in an effort to save money, the lab uses third party parts that may or may not fit correctly. Many after market companies (like implant direct) have to circumvent patents on machining the implant abutments so they must machine their abutments differently than an authentic part. Therefore, before you throw an implant company under the bus, first figure out what abutment was used. Ask the lab. Your dentist should have documentation that the abutment was an authentic part. Your dentist should have asked for OEM (original equipment manufacturers) parts. If not, then the fault does not lie with the implant company.

None of this is true. Patents run up, and many companies now make third party abutments, including Straumann now!! Haha. Straumann mills abutments for 8 different connections. Dont trash Implant Direct. It was probably bone or tissue holding it up...or lab used wrong part. Its easy to make the exact connection after patent is up. Zimmer and Implant Direct Legacy...MIS...biohorizons all have exact same internal hex. Straumann charges more only because of more marketing....podium power, and paid ce programs etc. More reps...more employess. Dont believe the hype.
