Treatment Plan for Partially Edentulous Maxilla in Patient with Rheumatoid Athritis?
Last Updated: Nov 01, 2009
Dr. C. asks:
I have an elderly female patient with a history of rheumatoid arthritis who is almost completely edentulous in her maxilla. She has a complete and intact mandibular dentition. She has two teeth remaining — #2 and #12 [maxillary right second molar and maxillary left first premolar]. Both are in good shape. My treatment plan is to place 3 implants in the canine sites and 1 implant in the maxillary central incisor site and to use those 3 implants to support a 6 unit fixed partial denture from canine to canine with 3 pontics. On the posterior right, I plan to place implants in #3 and 5 sites [maxillary right first molar and second premolar sites] and make a 3 unit fixed partial denture with the a second premolar pontic. On the maxillary left posterior, I plan to place implants in #13 and 14 sites [maxillary left first molar and premolar] and to splint the crowns. I would appreciate comments and recommendations on my approach. Thanks
