What Implant Brand is This?

Last Updated: Oct 04, 2010

Dr. Y asks:

What brand of implant is this? I received this case from a referring dentist. This patient received this implant in a foreign country and it is ready for exposure for future crown placement.

Hello. I do not know what implant brand this is but I would not touch it. After restoring it you will loose the bone on the cuspid and whose fault will it be? You will get buccal recession and a very ugly rersult. It is too bad but we have to pass sometimes to stay in the clear. regards, Francois

Since it seemd narrow fixture with 1.0mm height external hex, probably RESTORE Dental Implant from Keystone Dental (former Lifecore). Although this products may be finished distribute, please ask Keystone Dental.

Francois may be correct, but a couple of different x-ray angles or CBCT scan would determine the available bone. Sorry, I don't recognize the implant either.

Dr.Y You may be able to compare and identify the implant in a website called whatimplantisthat.com. I have found that the easiest way to identify them is to contact the surgeon that placed them, even if it is a foreign country. Good luck.

Looks like a SD 3.3 diameter restore external hex made by Lifecore now called Keystone Dental.

Like most of your other responders I haven't the faintest idea what brand of implant this is either. However your message highlights a very important problem - "Guess the implant". Can I please use this forum to implore all implantologists to TELL THE PATIENT which brand of implant has been placed. It has been my practise for a long while to send every patient I treat a laminated sheet giving details of the brand of implant, it's dimensions, it's catalogue reference number, etc and the address of the local distributor. This is accompanied by a covering note asking the patient to keep it in a safe place and show it to their dentist if any problems arise. I also , of course send a copy to the referring dentist. This really doesn't take much effort and if it was standard practise by all implantologists we wouldn't need all this silly guess work.

There is some company out there, name escapes me, but you can send them any radiograph of an implant and they will tell you what it is. Free service. Maybe Attatchments International?? Or Zimmer?? I can find out later...oops just checked. Both of the above will do for you! Hope this helps! Bill I.
