Zirconium Implants: What is Your Experience?

Dr. B asks:
Can anyone tell me their experiences with zirconium implants? Are you placing them? Is the surgical placement protocol different from titanium implants? What is your success rate? Most common reasons for failure? What company are you using and why? What are the advantages, if any that you see to using a zirconium implant as opposed to titanium? Thanks.

Hi Dr. B.: My experience with Zirc implants is a good as with titanium implants, not better t cerainly not worse. I have placed nearly 300 in the last 2 years with 99+% sucess rate. The surgical protocol is very similar to the titanium implants (monoblock type)and the only failures I have had have been due to overload (any implant should be free of lateral loads for at least 8 -12 weeks. I use Bredent´s White Sky a very nice monoblock, and the reasons are... its a great german company, brezircon gets stronger after grinding it and it is self limitating in terms of fractures. Also the sizes are nice to work with and the shape fits me well. Hope this helps

Does anybody have seen any published study on long term zirconia implants? Sirona talks about milling zirconia implants for a year but still did not come out with them yet!? Thank you for your comments
