I am on PROLIA for osteoporosis: Can I get a dental implant?

Soreness on right side when chewing started a couple of months ago. When I went for the 6 month cleaning/check up, the xrays showed a broken molar with an infection. The dentist stated the tooth needs to be extracted and possibly will need a dental implant. Referred me to an oral surgeon to have the tooth extracted. The surgeon recommends to have an implant. Explained I am on PROLIA therapy for osteoporosis. Can I have this procedure done? If not what alternatives are there?

The warning for prolia (a monoclonal antibody) state the mechanism of slowing osteoclast activity, slowing bone repair and placing the patient at risk for osteonecrosis, similar to the bisphosphonate group of medications.

Bone loss in the jaw is most often related to and caused by the IV (intravenous) administration of bisphosphonates and these types of drugs. Most doctors do not want to risk doing surgery on someone taking this type of medication, however I have seen several patients who have had dental implants placed and then later started taking oral bisphosphonates and did not have any bone loss problems.Gary W. I had my most recent Prolia shot 3 months ago. I am scheduled to have a tooth extraction and dental implant today. Should I wait until it's been 6 months? I'm concerned about the jaw bone necrosis associated with this medication.

I was told as well that since taking Prolia, I if I decided to have the full dental implant top and bottom, I will be risking getting jaw bone necosis. For my safety, I decided not to have this procedure done

I get Prolia injections twice a year. I need two dental implants in the bottom front teeth. Can I do this and if not. Can I stop the proposal and get the implants done later?

I wear dentures but yet the insurance is asking for a dental exam before starting Prolia. Why?

I was misdiagnosed with osteoporosis and took Prolia injections for 6 years before a bone specialist informed me I did not have the condition and to stop taking the meds immediately! The prolia injections had caused my bones to deteriorate tot eh point I was breaking fingers simply by banging them on a hard surface! The injections caused the bones in my jaw and around my top teeth to deteriorate so badly I can not have implants. Dentures or partials were my only option! Now keep in mind that I was receiving treatments for 6 years when in fact I didn't have the condition to begin with.
