Need to Change Attachments: Can You Identify these Implants?

Dr. K asks:
Can anyone identify the manufacturer of these dental implants? They were placed about ten years ago. I need to change the attachments. Thanks.

Looks like Biohorizons. A good website to help is whatimplantisthat.com. I had a similar case and found a match there. If not sometimes your lab can help.

Contact the doc that placed them. They should have the record. I went through this recently with an Astra case. Astra changed some things and discontinued some components. I had to call in the rep. I will say the rep did save the day! A bit of a pain in the neck.

I send these to Attachments International. Contact (used to be) Darwin. Their website also has a link to whatimplantisthat.com. They stock the components. Anecdotally, I had a similar situation and left a message with the previous doctor's receptionist. The patient called me about twenty minutes later and said, "My old dental office just called me out of the blue and said they are running a special on the procedure that I needed."

Doesn't matter what the brand is. They are externally hexed implants, 3.75mm in diameter with a conventional 2.7mm x .7mm hex. Impression copings for Branemark, 3i or any of the other systems that had the old style hex will work.

Dr. Richard Hughes gave you the best suggestion. Contact the dentist that placed the implants. If that is not possible, then I suggest talking to your 3i rep or your keystone dental rep (previously Lifecore) to help you with the necessary parts to restore these. They look like standard 3.75 external hex implants (the longest one might be a 4 mm. Good luck!
