Bar or Ball Denture Attachment?

I’m trying to decide which kind of denture attachment I should get, bar or ball? What are the pros and cons of each?

Dear Jaime Ramos What is the "KISS" rule? would you please make it clear. I thank you. Usually for balls the fixture must be parallel together. for bar the distance between two fixture should be 8 - 12 mm. Also inter arch space is important. if space is more than 8 - 10 , bar could be used. if space is short so it is better to use balls.

Depending on how many implants you get will in part determine which "bar/ball". If you get 2, you get the bar. It connects the two together for strength. If you get 4 or more, you get a ball because the strength is less a factor as the load is spread out over several implants and secured by several vs 2. I hope this helps.

If fixtures are not parallel togethers balls are better.

The first question you need to ask yourself is how stable do you want the overdenture to be. Two implants, whether with ball attachments or connected by a bar, will mean that you have a tissuw supported overdenture, because it rests on the gums. Your gums are soft so it will allow some movement and you will be limited in the types of foods you chew. Four implants with good anterior-posterior spread will allow you to use balls also and the overdenture will move less, but it will still rest on your gums. If you connect the four implants with a bar however, you can have the overdenture supported by the implants and not the gums, and it will be more stable, and more comfortable to allow you to eat better. I wrote an article about it for dentists here: http://www.dentalaegis.com/id/2012/04/the-mandibular-bar-overdenture I hope this helps and good luck!
