Bone graft cost and need for block bone graft?

My situation: Lost #30 and 31—- rt side ready for implants—obstacle is the left side as I had worn a removal partial. What is the approximate cost of the various types of dental bone grafts? If ridge height is needed and this has been determined, is block bone graft the only procedure? I do not want general anesthesia.

There are other ways to build the ridge without a block graft. While a block graft of autogenous origin may be the most predictable way to go the proceedure would require harvesting of bone from the mandibualar ramus, chin. Some oral surgeons will even take bone from the hip or part knee. This can be costly and even require a hospital visit. There are other materials such as bone putties like Regenaform used with cortical bone pins to build mandibular width and height, or dynablast bone putty. These can be successful but may shrink requiring an additonal grafting proceedure or at least some additonal grafting at the time of implant placement. I have used these methods often with considerable sucess. These proceedures must be combined with the use of Guided bone regeneration membranes that limit or prevent soft tissue ingrowth from comprimizing the bone graft.. The last type of method is very promising but can be costly as well. That is the use of Bone mineralizing protein-2 ( BMP-2) which is a geneticlally engineered protein by the name of INFUSE which has been approved for use in Sinus lift grafts but has been shown to be build both width and height when used with a titanium mesh to create the shape of the desired ridge augmentation. Lastly the cost of these proceedures certainly can cost $1800 to $5000 or $6000 depending on the approach. I hope this is helpful, Sincerely Yours, David Furnari DDS

The cost for bone grafting is based on degree of bone grafting, its complexity, and what materials are necessary to predictably regenerate bone, and length of anesthesia time. For onlay graft, this can range from $2000 to $6000. It’s best to see an oral surgeon to have proper diagnosis and recommendations for your specific needs. Dr. Kazemi
