Osteogen Strip: Clinical Case Videos

This series of six videos provide an excellent introduction to the Osteogen Strip, a new product which infuses bone graft into a collagen strip to eliminate the problems associated with particulate migration. The flexible strips easily conform to the grafting site, eliminating gaps in bony walls. The videos below show the Osteogen Strip in the following clinical scenarios: Subperiosteal Repair, Implant Dehiscence Repair, Crestal Graft, Grafting to Fill Gaps & Reinforce the Buccal Plate, Cyst Removal, and Vertical Graft. Do we need to use collagen membrane?

No , I have not used one in the last 3,500 grafts ........as long as the graft material is stable and biocompatible ..... the periosteum is King by a long way ..

Where in the USA can I get materials you use to graft without membranes?

Please go to DDSGadget to purchase these materials. We have Bond Apatite, and also the Osteogen Plug and Osteogen Strip. Please note that use of a membrane is very case dependent no matter what product you use. Generally, you will need four walls and good closure, if you don't use a membrane. Otherwise, a membrane is recommended.

How are these strips stabilized? Also aren't you concerned with salivary contamination?

To stabilize the OsteoGen Strip, screws work well (especially if you fold the strip over and use it like an onlay graft). If you do this, make holes in the cortex, deliver the strip dry and let it soak up blood from the host. If, on the other hand, you want to just lay it over, you need to cover it with a membrane or something that can be sutured to the host. Whatever the technique, the Osteogen Strip needs to be immobilized – if it’s moving around, it will be tough to integrate.

The Osteogen strip is hydrated with whole blood, serum, or plasma (never saline). The fibrin glue makes it adherent to the graft area so it will not migrate from it's position in situ. I either cover it with a PRF membrane or do not use a membrane at all. This allows a contribution from the undifferentiated periosteal stem cells to new bone growth.

Hmmm. These aren't even "Case Reports". They're just cases. Not one followup. No results shown, not even short term. Not one proof that the result was as it was intended...just 'here is where I put it'. This product is a new concept. I'd like to see some proof of concept.
